Despite having been available in the Android Market in beta form for a while now, Winamp for Android was never really officially announced by AOL. Earlier this week however, they’ve updated the application and put the official stamp of greatness on it, including full Shoutcast support, iTunes library import and wireless desctop syncronisation. As noted on the Winamp blog, this release pushes Winamp to version 0.9.2 and adds a ton of new features to the already awesome media player.

What’s New in Winamp beta (0.9.2):

Wireless Desktop Sync
No need to tie your Android phone down. Enable Wi-Fi sync and leave your cable behind. Now your playlists are also synced wirelessly.

SHOUTcast Radio
Extend your listening experience beyond your own library. Search, Favorite and play over 40,000 internet radio stations.

Android Widget Players & Shortcuts
Now in addition to the standard widget there is a new smaller (4×1) widget. You can also add your favorite playlists to your Android home screen, as well as enable playback control from the lock-screen.

Now Playing
Displays song info, album art and more. Press and hold on the song info to interact with other apps like Pandora, YouTube and the Amazon MP3 Store (requires that these additional apps are installed on your device). Get Artist information like bios, pictures, and more by clicking on the info icon.

Persistent Player Controls
Intuitive interface with player controls that are always available. Quickly pause, change tracks, manage your play queue, see what’s playing and access the Winamp Home screen.

Play Queue Management
The play queue is a temporary track listing that allows you to easily see what’s playing next, jump ahead or change the order of tracks in your queue. And if you like, save it as a playlist.

Scrobbling
Supports scrobbling with the Last.fm app installed (on your Android device). Capture all of your mobile listening history in real time.

Language Support
Brazilian Portuguese, English, French, German, Japanese, Polish, Romanian, & Russian. More to come.

A new multimedia player for the Android platform was officially announced last week. The player is called DoubleTwist. And this event could go unnoticed, because there plenty of music players available on the Market, and the release of another one is not such a big news… The fact is that compared to some other players, DoubleTwist looks very cool and attractive due to some features and nice design.

The first point of difference is the design. There are not that many players for Android with nice and neat user interface. This software definitely stands from the masses.

Secondly, in addition to playing music, DoubleTwist supports video playback and is able to play podcasts.

Thirdly, there is a desktop client for the player (runs on both PCs and Macs), with which you can listen to the music, subscribe to podcasts and sync all this stuff with your phone. In addition, the desktop client has a tab with the Android Market, where applications are shown with screenshots, descriptions and QR-codes for quick search. Finally, the desktop client has a built-in music store, which could be useful for some users.

I might post a detailed review of DoubleTwist in the near future, however if you cannot wait to try this software, look for it on the Market.
