Google has once again updated the information about the Android versions, and market share each of the versions has compared to the others. This statistics is, as always, interesting and gives us a good reason to discuss it.
From the chart above we can see that the first Android 2.2 devices have already appeared on the market and Google included them in the comparison. It is not hard to predict that in the future the percentage of devices running version 2.2 will only grow and will eventually become the most used version of the operating system (until the next version comes out of course).
In the meanwhile, the share of Android 2.2 is only 1.8%, while Android 2.1 smartphones have a much larger share of the market – 53.1%. Android 1.5 and 1.6 share the remaining 45% almost equally. There is still a significant presence of version 1.5 devices on the market due to the HTC Hero and its versions for different markets. Samsung and LG have a few well selling devices running on Android 1.6. In my opinion, Android 2.1 will slowly give way to a new version – 2.2, and the share of versions 1.5 and 1.6 will be declining until it reaches zero or very small percentages.

I believe you are right. In fact I think that when the new version that replaces 2.2 comes out the chart will look similar, with 2.2 having just over 50% and 2.1, 1.6, and 1.5 all having nearly equal amounts of the other 50%.
i use 2.2, and happy very happy with it
