Couch to 5k

C25K

C25k stands for Couch to 5k. This is not just a software application, but more of a professional running program. C25k have a reasonably large community, a website and a forum. So if you want to learn more about the actual program and its nuances feel free to visit their site.

C25K main screen

The entire complex of exercises is divided into 9 weeks, with three runs per week. All 27 exercises are shown as buttons on the main screen of the application. By clicking on one of the buttons, you will see the detail of an exercise that needs to be done on this particular day. For example, the first day looks like this: begin you exercise with a 5 minute warm-up session (e.g. a simple walk), then alternate 60 seconds of jogging and 90 seconds of walking for a total of 20 minutes.

The load will obviously increase every day and the duration of training will also be growing. I am not in a position to review the actual c25k method, as I haven’t done all the exercises myself. Once I finish the program I might post an update. As per the application itself – it is very straightforward and easy to use, and is a great motivator to start running and become more active.
