Along with the announcement of the Galaxy S – Android based flagship smartphone from Samsung, which was demonstrated at the CTIA WIRELES 2010 exhibition, the new top-end Android phone has been released by HTC. Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome HTC EVO 4G, the first smartphone with WiMAX network support for the U.S. market, previously known as “Supersonic”.
Technical specifications of the device and some other details are already available on the Net.
Let’s have a look at the specifications (technically the device is a copy of HTC HD2):
- Display – 4.3 “, capacitive type, resolution of 480 × 800 pixels
- Processor – 1 GHz Qualcomm QSD8650
- Memory – 512 MB RAM and 1 GB allocated for data storage
Cameras – 8 Mp with autofocus and dual led-flash. 1.3 MP front camera - Battery – 1500 mAh
Adaptors – Wi-Fi, WiMAX, GPS - MicroSD card slot
- HDMI-connector
- microUSB,
- 3.5 mm headphones mini-jack
Since EVO is a “copy” of HD2, it will be able to comfortably play the unconverted video in 480p.
The design is similar to the HTC HD2 , which is an advantage for most potential buyers. It has a slim body, and a huge screen. HTC EVO looks, frankly, elegant and impressive. Some people may not like red insertions, but for my taste, they look quite cool and give the device a bit of a “difference”. There is a retractable “leg” on the battery cover, which can be used to set the device on the table (or any other flat surface) to watch a video.
There is one downside (and it is BIG). HTC EVO is a smartphone built exclusively for the American market, with support for CDMA networks and the traditional operator centric (in this case it is Sprint) distribution model. The sales will start in summer (winter in Australia). The price is not yet known.
Conclusions? It is logical to expect a similar device for the European (and Australian) market. Hopefully, the announcement of Samsung Galaxy S will spur the Taiwanese manufacturer and they will release the European version of the EVO 4G later this year.
