Samsung i8520 smartphone

Samsung unveiled their new Android (version 2.1) smartphone at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona, Spain. The phone’s index is i8520, but it is also known as Beam or Halo (name used during the design stage). Looking at the specifications, you might think that Samsung decided not to think much and just include all of the most recent technologies. After all, someone will certainly need the “top of the range” phone.

The device is based on the Android 2.1 mobile OS, coupled with Samsung’s new Bada interface. Technical specifications speak for themselves: just check the characteristics of the display used. i8520 utilises a 3.7 inch Super AMOLED display that is capable of displaying a WVGA-resolution. 8 megapixel camera with auto-focus and ability to shoot 720p video (up to 30 frames per second) will keep most users excited. The smartphone supports DivX and Xvid formats, and allows users to edit the videos.

It supports various wireless communications standards, including Bluetooth 2.1, 802.11b/g/n, Wi-Fi, A-GPS, support for DLNA, not to mention the GSM / EDGE and UMTS 900 / 1900 / 2100. The phone has 16 GB of flash memory, as well as a microSD slot. Built-in projector (DLP pico projector) can be a bit of a surprise for many. I think that projection is not a “must have” feature in a smartphone and not all potential buyers will be ready to pay extra for it. Projector quality and usability are also questionable.  It would be interesting to know your opinion: Are you interested in a smartphone with a projector? Feel free to tell us your opinion in the comments.
In conclusion, Samsung i8520 is expected to be released in Asia in the third quarter of this year.
