FileSocial for Android

There are plenty of file sharing services available on the Internet. Starting from the popular Rapidshare and FileFactory to the smaller local ones. I haven’t seen any such services available for Twitter. Of course there are picture uploading and URL shortening services, but until recently I wasn’t aware of a service that allowed you to upload a, let’s say, 20 MB file and automatically provide a link to it in Twitter… This is the main purpose of a program, or rather service, called FileSocial.

Filesocial - login

The program is well designed and very easy to use. Just login using your Twitter accountand program’s main (and only) window will open. Then select a file you want to upload and write a covering message (Twitt) for it. Tweets are optional, so you can leave this field blank. File size is limited to 50 MB, which I think is reasonable. You can easily share music tracks, data archives or small clips.

Files to upload are selected by type (images, video, etc.) or using a built-in file manager, which can see and access memory card of your device. Once you find the file, select it, write a Twitt and click Upload – the file is now being uploaded to a FileSocial server. Once it is uploaded, a message with a link to it and a comment (if any) will be added to your Twitter page. When someone clicks on the link, FileSocial page will open, where the file is available for download.

Android version of FileSocial is not the only one available. You can also use the service online by visiting their website or downloading a small program to your computer. There is a nice review of an online version of the File Social on WillINeedIt. In any case, FileSocial turned out to be an interesting application if you use Twitter and want to share files or other media with your friends and followers. I cannot say that the service is incredibly useful, but sometimes the opportunity to upload and share a file is missing in Twitter. Now such opportunity exists.
